Reporting to the Purchasing Director, the Project Buyer is responsible for the purchasing strategy, negotiation, and procurement of electrical equipment and materials required for successful project execution. Acting as a key liaison between Estimating, Project Management, and suppliers, you will ensure adherence to budgets, delivery deadlines, and quality standards for every project.
Position Summary :
Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Project Purchasing & Procurement Management

Needs Analysis: Review technical specifications and project estimates to identify material requirements (transformers, low/medium voltage switchgear, cabling, lighting fixtures, cable trays, etc.).

Supplier Sourcing: Issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to electrical material distributors and manufacturers.

Negotiation: Secure the best commercial terms (pricing, payment terms, incentives) while complying with the client’s technical requirements.

Order Issuance: Input, process, and rigorously track project purchase orders within the ERP system.
2. Logistics & Risk Management

Delivery Planning: Coordinate with Project Managers and Site Superintendents/Foremen to schedule Just-in-Time (JIT) deliveries based on construction progress.

Dispute Resolution: Handle non-conformities, delivery delays, damaged materials, and manage returns or claims with suppliers.

Budget Tracking: Monitor cost variances against the initial project budget and alert management of any significant deviations.
3. Supplier Relations & Strategic Monitoring

Performance Evaluation: Monitor and assess supplier service quality (on-time delivery, order accuracy).

Market Intelligence: Stay informed about technological innovations, metal market fluctuations (copper, aluminum), and industry supply chain constraints to anticipate price increases or shortages.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree or DEC (College Diploma) in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a technical degree in Electrical Engineering / Electricity.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of purchasing experience in the construction sector, ideally with an electrical contractor or an electrical distributor.
Technical Skills

Excellent knowledge of electrical equipment and industry brands (Schneider, Eaton, ABB, Legrand, Nexans, etc.).

Proficiency with project management software or ERP systems (e.g., Acumatica), Procore, and advanced Excel skills.

Knowledge of current electrical codes and regulations (an asset).

Work Schedule:
- 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday.
